I still try and avoid destroying toadstools after being told when I was a kid that pixies used them as houses and that if you break a 'pixie ring' you'll be cursed!
Unfortunately mine only mark the homes of fire ants from time to time. If you spy the two dark areas on the ground, that's where pines used to stand, so I guess shallow roots encourage the growth of the fungus.
